Teaching

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire” – William Butler Yeats

I am a teacher at heart. I have spent the last decade focused on teaching at a variety of different institutions, interacting and learning from a variety of different kinds of students, and learning new ways to be an effective educator.

I have taught classes in sociology, criminal justice, women’s and gender studies, interdisciplinary social sciences, and justice studies. I teach traditional face-to-face classes, hybrid/flipped classes and online classes. Needless to say, I teach a lot!

In 2021 I also took on a new role, Undergraduate Program Director for the Department of Sociology at MSU. This new role allows me additional opportunities to help foster strong life-long learning skills for our undergraduates and also allows me to help voice and advocate for student needs.
